The Indonesian e-commerce market is still very much in its infancy compared to other countries in Asia. There are many reasons that it hasn’t seen the same growth, but it mainly comes down to Indonesians lack of trust in industries related to e-commerce. Many Indonesians prefer off-line payment methods (e.g. cash on delivery) and don’t have trust in delivery services.

Industry analysts say, that Indonesia is greatest potential out of all the markets in South East Asia. Bayu Krisnamurthi, Vice Minister of Trade, claimed that e-commerce in Indonesia would reach evaluation of $10 billion in 2015.

Although there will definitely be large increases in online sales in Indonesia, it is unlikely that we will see the growth that the country has so much potential for in the next few years.

Lazada is the biggest online marketplace in Indonesia. It has seen considerable growth over the last few years, and should continue to into the foreseeable future.
